BOY’S TOY

Who is playing with whom? Who is in power? Which label is tacked onto the box contemporary women get squeezed in? Mother, lover, business woman, saint, whore? Representative of these boxes, the humble square takes center stage in the summer collection 2012. Squashed into rhomboids, broken up and through and rearranged into flowing patterns, it is the square, of all symbols, that celebrates playfully breaking out of stereotypical, unyielding gender roles. These normally inflexible elements thereby become fluidly abstract waterfalls and reptile-like patterns. The collection also draws on details and materials from traditional men’s attire, reinterpreting these to flowing, feminine silhouettes. The conflict between the genders thus becomes just as playfully juxtaposed, as a successful career-oriented woman juggles her roles – playing with her child in the morning or with her boy toy in between business meetings.
