LOVE. POPEYE
The spring/summer 2013 collection is dedicated to sailors, love and to pop culture. It features Popeye the sailor being madly in love with Venus. Not the innocent goddess we know from Botticelli paintings, but her dark, erotic side born from the deepest depths of the oceans.
This duality in the collection is embodied by carefully selected materials. Nautical stripes symbolize Popeye’s playfulness. They are sharply juxtaposed with black, rough terrycloth and silicon-coated fabrics representing the emotionally dark and uncontrollable Venus. By combining the light with the heavy, the bright with the dark; by combining natural with treated materials, the collection illustrates the love between these two opposing entities.
Using patterns from pop culture and Japanese woodcut, the essence of femininity is cheerfully interpreted – being sophisticated on the outside, with a deeply emotional core. This woman is emancipated and deadly attractive – fostering her inner femme fatale, using it as a source for inspiration, strength and a wild passion for life.
